Oct 18th we had a performance by two musicians who are on tour from South Africa (Francois le Roux) and Belgium (Joke Debarre). Spontaneous creativity is the key – – – nearly all of the music produced by Francois ( also known as Ha!Man ) is unrehearsed and created in the moment. But that is not to say it is without theme and discipline. Local musicians, Justin Franzino -piano & accordion; and Arthur Breur – piano composer, were here and played some of their pieces, with Francois accompanying with cello, with no previous idea they would even be here. It was simply wonderful, and inspiring. Joke also composed on the fly, but hers was a poetry stream, unraveling ideas and images against the backdrop of Ha!Man’s mixes of keyboard and cello. For years Francois has been travelling through Africa, Europe, and North America creating spontaneous shows yearly. It’s a grueling schedule, but he seems to revel in the experience. He expressed that being here, and being able to play on Bosendorfer is a real treat, like an oasis in his travels. Although his primary instrument is cello, he’s a very accomplished pianist also. THANK YOU to all who brought drinks, food, and your great energy to the studio for this event!
